For the Moments You Value

Because You Deserve the Exceptional

Ultimately the choice is yours.

You can choose something ordinary, mass-produced, and soulless, or you can choose a piece that exists beyond trends and repetition, unique just like you.
Each Seiha is handcrafted in small batches, finished with a delicate crackle glaze, and entirely unique in its Azure and Midnight Blue tones, feel, and presence.
This is more than a tea mug. It’s a rare expression of Japanese artistry, created for those who understand the value of what can’t be repeated.

If that speaks to you, Seiha is already yours. You just haven’t brought it home yet.

Beauty That Makes You Pause

Not Just a Mug, a Peaceful Moment

In the rush of everyday life, stillness can feel out of reach. But sometimes, it starts with something simple, like a tea mug that holds more than just a drink.

Seiha is shaped slowly by hand, not molded by machines, which means each piece carries its own unique character. The soft crackle glaze captures light in varying tones, and the slight differences in form are the natural marks of a handmade process.
This is the heart of wabi sabi pottery: a Japanese aesthetic that embraces irregularity, honors natural beauty, and sees those variations not as flaws, but as something to be valued. It’s what makes each Seiha not just different, but deeply personal.

Effortless Elegance

Your everyday tea mug, elevated

Add calm and depth to your table with Seiha, a refined piece of Japanese pottery shaped for beauty, balance, and everyday use.

From Clay to Meaning

A Tea Mug Shaped by Tradition and Time

In the heart of Kyoto, master potter Taichi Kawai founded Usurai Pottery, a studio where emotion and material meet.
A graduate of the Kyoto Institute of Traditional Crafts, Kawai-san refined his skills in Shigaraki before developing his signature crackle glaze, known in Japan as kannyū (貫入), a traditional ceramic crazing technique that forms delicate lines beneath the surface, like frozen water beginning to melt.
Shaped entirely by hand and never cast in molds, each Seiha tea mug is unique.
This is not industrial ware, but refined Japanese pottery, a piece that reflects the presence, light, and stillness of its maker.

Cultural Notes

Tradition Reimagined, Beauty Rediscovered

Inspired by the traditional yunomi (湯呑) a Japanese teacup without a handle used in everyday tea rituals, Seiha blends timeless form with thoughtful innovation. Its curved handle offers the comfort of a Western pottery mug, while the shape and feeling remain rooted in Japanese craft.
The surface is finished with a fine crackle glaze, known in Japan as kannyū (貫入): a natural network of lines formed during cooling. This elegant detail is known as ceramic crazing, or craquele in Europe. It reflects the wabi sabi meaning of beauty in irregularity and quiet asymmetry, an aesthetic that values what is natural, unrepeatable, and real.

Featured Focus

Seiha, Reflections in Motion

The name Seiha (青波) combines the two Japanese characters of 青, meaning “blue” or “pure,” and 波, meaning “wave.” Together, they evoke the image of light moving across water, shifting, soft, alive. This poetic name mirrors the surface of the mug itself, where the fine ceramic crazing reflects subtle color variations, like ripples catching the light.
For master potter Taichi Kawai, the goal was never simply to create something beautiful, but something that feels. “I want it to be used every day,” he says, “but also to stop you, for a second, to notice its beauty and reflect on it.”
Seiha does exactly that. Calm in form, yet full of quiet motion, it’s an object meant to be lived with, held, seen, and softly admired.
