Not Like the Others

You Deserve Something Made with Care

In the end, the choice is yours.
You’re not just looking for a bowl, right? You’re choosing what surrounds the moments that matter.

Look, most bowls are made by machines, rushed through factories, designed to be forgotten. But the Hisei matcha bowl is different.
Carved from pure hinoki and shaped by the hands of a Japanese artisan, it carries the quiet weight of care, time, intention.
This bowl exists because someone like you does: someone who sees meaning in the details and beauty in things that last.
Because what you bring into your life should reflect who you are: rare, thoughtful, unmistakably real.

Quiet, in the Palm of Your Hand

A Bowl for More Than Tea, A Moment for You

The world moves fast. But this bowl doesn’t.
The Hisei matcha bowl was made for slow rituals, whisking tea, breathing deeply, taking pause.
But its purpose doesn’t end there. Use it for a scoop of ice cream, a warm bowl of rice, or anything that deserves a moment of presence.
Hand-shaped from Japanese hinoki, it brings calm to whatever it holds.
Because in a life that pulls you in every direction, you deserve one thing that brings you back to center.

Effortless Elegance

A Still Moment in the Flow of the Day

With soft curves and a warm, organic presence, the Hisei matcha bowl brings a whisper of nature to your daily rituals.

Where Wood Breathes

Crafted in Harmony with the Forest

In the wooded hills of Nara, near the ancient Tōdaiji Temple and its gentle deer, Tokuda Meiboku has long devoted itself to working with wood in quiet reverence, honoring the beauty and spirit of nature

Here nothing is rushed.
Each piece begins with a deep respect for the tree it came from, and is shaped slowly, with care and intention.
The Hisei matcha bowl carries this spirit: a quiet balance between form, feeling, and the natural world it came from.

Cultural Notes

Between Rice and Tea: Understanding the Chawan

In Japanese, chawan (茶碗) means “tea bowl,” but the word is used in daily life to describe both rice bowls and matcha bowls. Context makes the difference:

- A rice bowl is often called gohan chawan (ご飯茶碗) or meshi-wan (飯椀), smaller, lighter, used daily.
- A matcha bowl, or matcha chawan (抹茶茶碗), is deeper, heavier, with a wide mouth to whisk tea using a bamboo chasen (a traditional Japanese bamboo whisk).
Rooted in tea tradition, it’s meant to be held with both hands, to invite calm, and to frame the moment.
The Hisei matcha bowl follows this legacy, not just as a tool, but as part of the quiet art of slowing down.

Featured Focus

Hinoki, the Wood of Purity and Stillness

The name Hisei (檜静) is made of two kanji, each carrying a quiet meaning.

- 檜 refers to hinoki, the pale Japanese cypress used in temples, Shinto rituals, and traditional wood art, loved for its softness, clarity, and gentle scent.
- 静 means stillness, calm, and quiet presence.

Together, they reflect the soul of the piece.
The Hisei matcha bowl is not only shaped by hand, but by intention. A vessel where form and feeling meet, inviting you to pause, breathe, and return to something beautifully simple.
