100% made in Japan, crafted with integrity and ethical labor practices.
Exclusivity Note: Each handcrafted Japanese matcha bowl is one-of-a-kind; the piece shown is a reference for made-to-order creations.
Hand-thrown by master potter Taro Kojima at Nunobiki Kiln (Shiga, Japan), the Somori matcha bowl measures 120 mm wide and 80 mm deep, the right proportions for a standard chasen.
The ceramic body is finished in Nanasai Tenmoku, the layered glaze technique signature of Kojima-san's kiln: a deep black ground crossed by a sweeping aurora of teal, blush and bronze tones. Each piece is unique by nature of the firing.
The glaze breaks in fine, natural texture, and the slight irregularity at the lip shows the hand that finished it, not a mold. A quiet expression of wabi-sabi over perfect symmetry.
Use it for whisked matcha at home, where the wide opening gives space for the chasen and the weight feels steady in a daily tea routine. Hand wash only.
