The Sazanami Turquoise Salad Bowl feels like a clean design object that still shows the small truths of handwork.

Shaped in Shigaraki clay and finished by hand, it holds a tall, rounded profile with a crisp lip and a glaze that moves from deep blue to softer sea tones, with fine speckling and tiny pinholes that make each bowl one of a kind in a wabi sabi spirit.

Its depth suits single salads, fruit, yogurt, ice cream, or a small soup, and it stores neatly in modern kitchens.

Maruju has been part of Shigaraki's pottery tradition since 1937, based in Shiga Prefecture's Shigaraki, one of Japan's six ancient kilns.
The kiln combines traditional Shigaraki forms with modern design, reimagining classic shapes through vivid glazes like turquoise.

Freshly fired pieces are known to ring with a distinctive bell-like chime. Maruju's range spans tableware, kitchenware, and decorative objects, blending heritage techniques with a contemporary touch for everyday use.
