The Mankai Teacup Set is pottery art designed for daily life.

Hand-shaped by master potter Kazuhiro Kojima, each cup is finished with the Nanasai Tenmoku glazing technique, a complex process that layers pink, ivory, and earthy tones into a surface that feels alive yet restrained.

Inside, delicate cherry blossom forms emerge beneath the glaze, while subtle variations in rim, balance, and texture reflect an intentional wabi-sabi sensibility
Far from factory repetition, every cup carries its own quiet depth.

Made for tea or coffee, the set brings calm consistency to shared, refined routines.

Cultural Notes

Mankai, A Refined Yunomi for Tea

Japanese teacups like the one f the Mankai set are called in Japanese yunomi (湯呑).
The word means “cup for drinking hot water,” formed from yu (湯), “hot water,” and nomi (呑), “to drink.”

Made to sit comfortably in the hand, it is held lightly between the fingers, carrying warmth in a calm, natural way.

Traditionally, a yunomi is used for everyday brewed teas such as sencha or hōjicha, while the wider matchawan is reserved for whisking matcha in the more formal tea ceremony.

Making of Japanese pottery (landscape). Tsukushi

Each piece of artisanal Japanese tableware is made with a steadfast commitment to quality, integrity, and responsible craftsmanship. From carefully sourcing materials and applying refined glazes to the final firing, every step respects traditional techniques while supporting fair labor and ethical production.

Featured Focus

Sakura’s Enduring Grace

How Hanami Honors Spring’s Brief, Tender Gift

In Japan, sakura, or cherry blossom, symbolizes beauty that lasts only briefly and reminds us to value the present moment.
The name Mankai (満開) reflects the peak of the bloom, when the flowers are fully open.
満 (man) means “full” or “filled.” 開 (kai) means “to open.” Together, they express “full opening,” the instant sakura reaches its brightest, complete flourish.
