The Komorebi Yunomi Teacup is a rare example of ceramic art that still belongs in daily life.

Master potter Kazuhiro Kojima handcrafts this yunomi and applies the Nanasai Tenmoku glazing technique to build contrasts and gentle highlights that shift subtly as the cup turns in the light.

Subtle swirls, tool traces, and slight irregularities at the rim and in the glaze reflect an intentional wabi sabi spirit, making every cup one of a kind and setting it apart from mass-produced ware.

Perfect for favorite teas like sencha, hojicha, or koucha, or even a hot cup of coffee.

Genuine Handmade Japanese Craft

A Yunomi Teacup You Will Actually Reach For

It really comes down to what you want in your daily cup.
You can use something perfectly consistent and factory-made, or you can choose a teacup that carries the touch of a real maker.

The second option feels quiet, and it changes the experience. It adds a small sense of pleasure to tea, coffee, and the simple moments in between.

The Komorebi Yunomi Teacup is made in small batches. Each one is shaped and finished by hand, so the glaze, tone, and profile will vary slightly from cup to cup.

Those differences are not defects, they are the natural outcome of the process. Whether you keep one for a calm solo break or bring them out when friends visit, this yunomi turns an ordinary drink into something a little more considered.

From Japan, Made With Care

A Gift That Feels Truly Considered

Handmade in Japan, the Komorebi Yunomi teacup is made at a measured pace, with attention in every step. It carries a quiet, refined presence you feel in the hand, on the table, and in the mood it creates.

Its size suits tea or coffee and invites a slower pause.
With its komorebi motif, the cup recalls sunlight slipping through leaves, a gentle pattern of shifting light that feels calm and alive.

Because each cup is finished by hand, the glaze and tone vary slightly. That wabi-sabi character is part of the beauty, not a flaw.

As a gift, it stands out because it never feels generic. It reads as thoughtfully chosen, leaves a warm impression when shared, and quietly tells the recipient they were truly considered.

From Nunobiki’s Family Kiln

Where It’s Made

The Komorebi Yunomi Teacup is made by hand by ceramic artist Kazuhiro Kojima of Nunobiki Pottery, a family-run kiln valued for its high level of artisanal and artistic skill, and for work finished with close attention.

Produced slowly and in limited quantities, each cup is shaped individually, so small differences appear naturally from one to the next.

The glaze, the balance in the hand, and the multi-toned komorebi motif carry Kojima’s signature touch, making the cup feel like more than tableware, a quiet statement of craftsmanship and intention.

Cultural Notes

Yunomi, The Everyday Japanese Teacup

The Komorebi Teacup is a yunomi (湯呑), a classic Japanese teacup made for daily brewed tea.

The word is built from yu (湯), “hot water,” and nomi (呑), “to drink,” a simple pairing that captures both its function and its place in everyday dining.

Unlike handled cups, a yunomi is meant to sit directly in the hand, letting the warmth come through the ceramic in a quiet, comforting way.

It is typically used for sencha, hōjicha, and other loose-leaf teas enjoyed as part of normal routines, even though in modern times it is also commonly used for coffee.

It is not the same as a matcha bowl, the matchawan (抹茶碗), which is broader and shaped specifically for whisking powdered matcha in the formal tea ceremony.

Two Shades of Komorebi

Offered in two delicate colorways, the Komorebi Yunomi Teacup reflects Japanese artisanship at its highest level, bringing together heritage, meticulous craftsmanship, and quiet everyday elegance.

Featured Focus

Komorebi’s Quiet Light

木漏れ日 (komorebi), Sunlight Through Leaves

In Japanese, komorebi is written as 木漏れ日. It describes the soft, dappled sunlight that filters through tree branches and leaves, appearing and disappearing as the wind moves. It is not just “light” in a general sense, but a very specific moment of nature, gentle, fleeting, and calm.

The word combines 木 (ko, “tree”), 漏れ (more, “leaking through”), and 日 (bi, “sunlight” or “day”), capturing the image of light quietly spilling between leaves.

Because this phenomenon is so subtle, komorebi is often linked to Japanese aesthetics that value imperfection, transience, and the beauty of small shifts in atmosphere.

The Komorebi cup carries this idea into everyday tea moments. As you hold it, the glaze and surface details can feel like a small landscape, inviting a slower pace and a quieter attention at the table.
