The Fukuro Blue Owl Cups, here presented in a set of five, bring quiet charm to everyday tea in a way factory cups never do.

Hand-shaped by artist Kazuhiro Kojima, each cup reveals a raised owl relief inside the wall, a subtle sculpted detail that appears as you sip and catches light from different angles.

The blue glaze pools and softens across the surface, while slight rim irregularities keep an intentional wabi-sabi feel, never perfectly uniform.

Balanced for a steady grip, they suit simple steep tea, sencha, hōjicha, or coffee, settling naturally into shared tables and calm morning routines.

A Fukuro Owl Cup Set Worth Choosing for Yourself

The choice is simple, and it is yours.
You can sip tea or your daily coffee from a perfectly uniform, factory-made cup, or you can choose something genuinely crafted, a rare set that brings quiet character to the table and feels like a small upgrade to everyday life.

The Fukuro Owl Cup Set is produced in small batches, with each cup shaped and finished by hand.

Subtle differences in glaze, tone, and form are part of the artisanal process, so no two cups are ever exactly alike.
Whether you enjoy a calm moment on your own or serve guests, these cups turn a simple drink into a more refined ritual.

From Japan, With Intention

A Handcrafted Gift Worth Remembering

Carefully handmade in Japan, the Fukuro Owl Cup Set is created with intention, not speed. It carries the calm presence of quiet luxury, the kind you notice in the hand, at the table, and in the mood it sets.

Each cup turns tea or coffee into a slower, more mindful pause. The owl detail feels like a small discovery, and the subtle variations from cup to cup make the set feel personal rather than mass-produced.

As a gift, it is easy to remember because it feels thoughtfully chosen. It leaves a gentle trace with every guest, and a sense that the moment, and the person receiving it, truly mattered.

From the Family Kiln of Nunobiki

Where It’s Made

The Fukuro Owl Cup Set is handcrafted in Japan by ceramic artist Kazuhiro Kojima of Nunobiki Pottery, a family-run kiln known for small-batch, hand-finished work.

His long-standing fascination with owls shapes the identity of this collection. In Japan, the owl is often seen as a symbol of protection and good fortune, a meaning he subtly carries into each piece.

Working patiently and in limited quantities, Kojima forms every cup by hand, allowing slight variations to emerge naturally. The glaze, the balance, and the raised owl motif reflect his personal touch, turning each set into more than tableware, into a small expression of craftsmanship and intention.

Cultural Notes

Fukuro, A Traditional Japanese Yunomi

The Fukuro Owl Cup Set is a yunomi (湯呑), the traditional Japanese teacup used for everyday brewed tea.

The term combines the Japanese words yu (湯), meaning “hot water,” and nomi (呑), meaning “to drink,” defining its practical and cultural role at the table.

A yunomi is designed to fit naturally in the hand, without a handle, allowing the warmth of the tea to be gently felt through the ceramic. It is most commonly used for sencha, hōjicha, and other loose-leaf teas enjoyed in daily life.

It differs from a matcha bowl, or chawan (茶碗), which is wider and specifically shaped for whisking powdered matcha during the formal tea ceremony.

Making of Japanese pottery (landscape). Tsukushi

Fukuro is an artisanal Japanese creation shaped with a clear commitment to quality, integrity, and responsible craftsmanship.

From thoughtful material selection and careful glazing to the final firing, every step honors traditional methods while supporting fair labor and ethical production.

Fukuro Teacup Set Q&A

Featured Focus

Fukuro’s Quiet Fortune

The Owl as a Symbol of Good Luck in Japan

In Japan, the owl is called fukuro (梟), a bird long associated with protection and good fortune.

Its name is often written with characters that suggest layered meaning.
While 梟 refers to the owl itself, the sound “fukuro” is sometimes playfully linked to 福 (fuku), meaning “good fortune,” and 苦労 (kurō), meaning “hardship,” implying a life protected from difficulty.

Because of these associations, owl motifs are considered auspicious.
They are believed to guard the home, bring luck, and watch over those who gather.

The Fukuro cup carries this quiet symbolism into daily tea moments, offering not only craftsmanship, but a subtle wish for well-being at the table.
