  • Origin: Nunobiki Kiln, Shiga, Japan

Crafted at Nunobiki Kiln in Shiga, Japan by master potter Kazuhiro Kojima, the Fukumori ceramic owl figurine is available in three sizes: small, medium, and large, each hand-finished and glazed individually.

The surface is treated in Nanasai Tenmoku, the Kojima family's signature glaze technique, that builds depth and color through kiln transformation.
It settles into cerulean blue across the wings, pale ivory at the face, and warm amber tracing each sculpted feather edge. The exact balance of tones shifts with every piece.

The glaze work is applied and refined entirely by hand. Variations in pooling, depth, and tone across the feather relief are the natural result of the process, not inconsistencies.

The owl carries a specific meaning for Kojima-san: it became his signature motif, a quiet symbol of luck and fortune rendered in clay and fire. Place it where it matters most, or offer it to someone you care for.

The Artist

Kazuhiro Kojima

  • Location: Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture
  • Technique: Nanasai Tenmoku
  • Tradition: Kyoto ware / Shigaraki ware

Born in 1972, Kazuhiro Kojima is the son of Taro Kojima, founder of Nunobiki Kiln. Growing up surrounded by clay, fire, and his father's restless experimentation, the kiln was never a distant place. It was home.

After completing his studies at art college, he returned to Nunobiki and trained alongside his father, gradually developing a visual language distinctly his own.

His signature subject is the Fukuro Owl, rendered in Nanasai Tenmoku across a range of scales, from monumental ceramic statues to small, intimate accessories.
His pieces have been placed in hospitals, public institutions, and streetscapes, chosen for the sense of calm and quiet warmth they carry.
