The Komorebi Yunomi Teacup is a rare example of ceramic art that still belongs in daily life.
Master potter Kazuhiro Kojima handcrafts this yunomi and applies the Nanasai Tenmoku glazing technique to build contrasts and gentle highlights that shift subtly as the cup turns in the light.
Subtle swirls, tool traces, and slight irregularities at the rim and in the glaze reflect an intentional wabi sabi spirit, making every cup one of a kind and setting it apart from mass-produced ware.
Perfect for favorite teas like sencha, hojicha, or koucha, or even a hot cup of coffee.
More Information
- One-of-a-Kind, Guaranteed Uniqueness
Each Komorebi yunomi teacup is shaped and decorated entirely by hand, one cup at a time.
Because every step is guided by the maker rather than a mold, no two pieces can ever match perfectly.
Subtle shifts in silhouette, rim line, and glaze flow emerge naturally during crafting and firing, giving the Komorebi yunomi its quiet wabi-sabi presence and making it genuinely impossible to find elsewhere. - Unique, Artistic Decoration
The surface is not simply “painted” on.
Through the nanasai tenmoku glazing technique, Kojima-san builds depth in the finish with controlled layering and delicate accents.
The result is a refined, tactile glaze landscape that feels artisanal in the hand and reveals new nuance as the cup turns in the light. - Cultural Heritage of Komorebi
The name Komorebi connects the piece to 木漏れ日 (komorebi), the Japanese word for sunlight filtering through leaves.
This everyday yet poetic concept is deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics, where small moments of light and shadow are valued as part of lived beauty.
As a yunomi (湯呑), the Komorebi teacup carries that sensibility into daily tea, a form made for real use, calm rituals, and quiet hospitality.
Care Guide
About your Komorebi Yunomi Teacup
Komorebi is a handcrafted ceramic teacup, created with an artisan’s sensibility but made to be part of everyday tea time. Gentle care helps its blue surface stay clear and luminous.
Maintenance
- No Harsh Appliances: Avoid the oven, microwave, and dishwasher to protect the handmade finish and delicate decoration.
- Gentle Cleaning: Wash by hand with warm water, mild non-abrasive detergent, and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbers.
- Preservation: Dry with a soft cloth after washing, and store carefully to prevent knocks along the rim and keep the decoration looking sharp.

Genuine Handmade Japanese Craft
A Yunomi Teacup You Will Actually Reach For
It really comes down to what you want in your daily cup.
You can use something perfectly consistent and factory-made, or you can choose a teacup that carries the touch of a real maker.
The second option feels quiet, and it changes the experience. It adds a small sense of pleasure to tea, coffee, and the simple moments in between.
The Komorebi Yunomi Teacup is made in small batches. Each one is shaped and finished by hand, so the glaze, tone, and profile will vary slightly from cup to cup.
Those differences are not defects, they are the natural outcome of the process. Whether you keep one for a calm solo break or bring them out when friends visit, this yunomi turns an ordinary drink into something a little more considered.

From Japan, Made With Care
A Gift That Feels Truly Considered
Handmade in Japan, the Komorebi Yunomi teacup is made at a measured pace, with attention in every step. It carries a quiet, refined presence you feel in the hand, on the table, and in the mood it creates.
Its size suits tea or coffee and invites a slower pause.
With its komorebi motif, the cup recalls sunlight slipping through leaves, a gentle pattern of shifting light that feels calm and alive.
Because each cup is finished by hand, the glaze and tone vary slightly. That wabi-sabi character is part of the beauty, not a flaw.
As a gift, it stands out because it never feels generic. It reads as thoughtfully chosen, leaves a warm impression when shared, and quietly tells the recipient they were truly considered.

Cultural Notes
Yunomi, The Everyday Japanese Teacup
The Komorebi Teacup is a yunomi (湯呑), a classic Japanese teacup made for daily brewed tea.
The word is built from yu (湯), “hot water,” and nomi (呑), “to drink,” a simple pairing that captures both its function and its place in everyday dining.
Unlike handled cups, a yunomi is meant to sit directly in the hand, letting the warmth come through the ceramic in a quiet, comforting way.
It is typically used for sencha, hōjicha, and other loose-leaf teas enjoyed as part of normal routines, even though in modern times it is also commonly used for coffee.
It is not the same as a matcha bowl, the matchawan (抹茶碗), which is broader and shaped specifically for whisking powdered matcha in the formal tea ceremony.

I bought this teacup for my daughter-in-law. My husband and I had spent a month travelling round Japan and I had initially bought her a beautiful teacup (no handle like this) from a very old looking shop in Koyoto. I never asked the shopkeeper if it was suitable for drinking from because I just expected it was. However, when my daughter-in-law washed it before making her first drink the teacup went all discoloured and is ruined. I felt so disappointed and upset so I went online to find a teacup just as beautiful and suitable for drinking from! I saw Tsukushi and browsed their products and was instantly hooked by everything they stand for and everything they are. I found this absolutely beautiful teacup. The design and colour is beautiful and I knew instantly it was perfect for my daughter-in-law. She absolutely loves the teacup. I will definitely buy more products from this company because I know I would be buying true authentic hand made Japanese products and helping a family business. The teacup was well packaged and shipping from Japan was very efficient and I was kept informed by email throughout the delivery process. Definitely and highly recommend Tsukushi.
Ms. Wright, thank you for sharing such a heartfelt story with us!

Knowing she loves using it, and that it's become part of her everyday, means a lot to us. Each piece we offer is chosen with exactly that in mind: beautiful, but also made to be lived with and used.
We're also pleased the packaging and shipping gave you confidence throughout, and we're honoured you'd trust a family business like ours with a gift so meaningful. Thank you for your kind words and for recommending us.

Glaze and technique are masterfully used to evoke the image of trees on these teacups.
Dear Customer,
Thank you for your kind words!
The name Komorebi (木漏れ日) indeed refers to sunlight filtering through the leaves and branches of trees. With this piece, the artist evokes that very imagery.

Komorebi Teacup Q&A
Is the Komorebi Yunomi Teacup safe for a microwave or dishwasher?
We suggest keeping it out of both.
Heat, steam, and strong detergents can strain the glaze over time.
A gentle hand wash with mild soap, then drying with a soft cloth, is the best way to protect the finish and keep the surface looking its best.
Is the Komorebi Teacup meant for everyday use or only for special moments?
It’s made to be used, not just admired.
With normal, careful handling, it will stay balanced and beautiful, and the tiny, natural changes that come with daily life can add a quiet charm rather than wear it out.
Would the Komorebi Yunomi Teacup make a thoughtful gift?
Yes. It feels personal because it’s made by hand, and the design carries a calm, refined mood without being too formal.
It works well for birthdays, housewarmings, or as a meaningful thank you when you want to give something that feels considered.
Why does the Komorebi teacup feel different from a regular teacup?
It’s shaped as a yunomi, so it feels more direct and comforting in the hand. No handle, a balanced weight, and a smooth rim that makes sipping easy.
The form is simple on purpose, it keeps the focus on the tea’s warmth, aroma, and the quiet pause that comes with it.
Can I use the Komorebi Yunomi Teacup for coffee or other drinks too?
Definitely. It works nicely for coffee, herbal tea, water, and other warm drinks.
Just avoid sudden temperature shocks, like pouring boiling liquid into a cup that’s been sitting very cold, since rapid changes can stress the ceramic.
What separates the Komorebi Yunomi Teacup from factory made cups?
Each one is shaped and finished by hand in small batches, so no two come out exactly the same.
Subtle differences in glaze flow and form are part of the piece’s identity, showing real workmanship where long-term quality matters more than perfect uniformity.
Do you ship worldwide, and will my Komorebi Yunomi Teacup be tracked and insured?
Yes. We ship to the USA, Europe, and worldwide.
Every order is packed carefully in house, shipped with tracking, and fully insured.
Once your order is dispatched, we send your tracking number so you can follow it through delivery.

Featured Focus
Komorebi’s Quiet Light
木漏れ日 (komorebi), Sunlight Through Leaves
In Japanese, komorebi is written as 木漏れ日. It describes the soft, dappled sunlight that filters through tree branches and leaves, appearing and disappearing as the wind moves. It is not just “light” in a general sense, but a very specific moment of nature, gentle, fleeting, and calm.
The word combines 木 (ko, “tree”), 漏れ (more, “leaking through”), and 日 (bi, “sunlight” or “day”), capturing the image of light quietly spilling between leaves.
Because this phenomenon is so subtle, komorebi is often linked to Japanese aesthetics that value imperfection, transience, and the beauty of small shifts in atmosphere.
The Komorebi cup carries this idea into everyday tea moments. As you hold it, the glaze and surface details can feel like a small landscape, inviting a slower pace and a quieter attention at the table.
