For the Moments You Value

Because You’re Not Like the Rest

Not all objects belong in your life.
Some are just things, easy to find, easy to forget. But not this.

The Suiei teacup set is part of a different world: one of quiet care, refined craft, and presence that lingers.
Made in small batches from fine Japanese ceramics, each cup bears delicate lines, soft asymmetries, and a depth of glaze that no machine could replicate.
If you value thoughtfulness over trends, and beauty over convenience, then these were made with you in mind.
Because the way you live, the objects you choose, and the rituals you cherish, they all reflect something deeper.

These aren’t just Japanese ceramic tea cups.
They are everyday reminders that you deserve to surround yourself with meaning, not just things.

Beauty That Makes You Pause

Not Just a Teacup, a Peaceful Moment

In the rush of deadlines, screens, and constant movement, stillness becomes rare.
The Suiei teacup set offers more than a pause, it offers a space to return to yourself.
Each cup, shaped slowly and with intention, carries the rhythm of its creation. When held, that rhythm becomes your own.

Taichi Kawai, the artist behind these works, hopes his ceramics will be used every day. But more than that, he hopes you'll stop, just for a second, and think: How beautiful this is.
As light moves across the surface, the colors shift, the reflections soften, and time seems to slow. That fleeting stillness, he says, is what makes the piece alive.
More than just Japanese tableware, Suiei reflects the spirit of wabi sabi pottery, beauty in imperfection, meaning in simplicity, and presence in the everyday.
It may only be tea. Yet in that instant, it becomes something else: clarity, grounding, and quiet renewal.

Quiet Beauty, Every Day

Where Earth Becomes Art

From Kyoto, with Stillness and Fire

The Suiei Teacup set is born at Usurai Pottery in Kyoto, where master potter Taichi Kawai turns earth and fire into quiet emotion.
After honing his craft in Shigaraki, he founded his studio to explore the interplay of form, texture, and light.
His signature crackle glaze, known as kannyū (貫入), creates fine ceramic crazing beneath the surface, like frozen water beginning to thaw.
Rooted in the soul of Japanese pottery, each piece shifts with the light, subtle, expressive, and never the same twice.

Cultural Notes

Tea Mug Refined. The Japanese Way

In traditional Japanese tea culture, the yunomi (湯呑) is a handleless teacup used for everyday tea drinking. Taller than a sake cup and more relaxed than formal teaware, it represents comfort, presence, and quiet routine.
You might think of it as a small tea mug with no handle, shaped to sit naturally in the hand and invite a grounded pause.
In Japanese pottery, pieces like the yunomi are often finished with beautiful glazes. In the case of the Suiei teacup set, each piece features traditional ceramic crazing, a delicate pattern of surface cracks formed as the glaze cools after firing.
In Japan, this is known as kannyū (貫入), cherished not as flaw, but as soul. In Europe, the same effect is called craquele, admired for its texture and timeless beauty.
This is where everyday function meets quiet emotion.

Featured Focus

Suiei, Light Held in Shadow

The name Suiei (翠影) combines two kanji: 翠, meaning “emerald” or “jade green,” and 影, meaning “shadow” or “reflection.” Together, they evoke the image of light passing through still water, where depth, color, and movement quietly shift.
This poetic name mirrors the surface of each handmade mug, subtle, luminous, and ever-changing with the light.
More than a vessel, Suiei is a moment of reflection shaped in clay, inviting presence and attention with every use.
