Choose with Intention

For Those Who See the Difference

In the end, it’s your choice.
You could settle for something predictable, common, and mass-produced….but something tells us you're not here for that.

By choosing Fubachi, you're bringing home something truly unique: a piece shaped by the hands of Japanese artisans, not by soulless machines. You are one of a kind, so it’s only natural to choose something irreplaceable and inimitable.
This piece, with its gentle asymmetry and subtle variations, reflects the quiet spirit of wabi sabi pottery. It’s a bowl that doesn't shout, but lingers, adding a sense of presence, mindfulness, and individuality to your space.
If you’ve read this far, you’re not just looking for a bowl.
You’re looking for something that reflects you…… Fubachi is that piece.

Stillness, Served

The Quiet Between Each Morning

In a world that moves too fast, your mornings shouldn’t.
Amid the noise and rush of daily life, there’s quiet to be found… if you choose it.
Fubachi was crafted with that stillness in mind, as a ceramic cereal bowl brings more than function to your table.
Its unglazed texture and balanced form invite you to slow down, to notice, to breathe and the calm poured into its making becomes part of your morning rhythm, grounding each day before it begins.

Even when empty, it holds presence. As part of your Japanese tableware, or simply placed on a shelf, Fubachi adds something rare: not decoration, but peace. A reminder that beauty lives in quiet things.

Quiet Design, Daily Ritual

The Cereal Bowl You Didn’t Know You Needed

With its matte surface and sculptural form, the Fubachi ceramic cereal bowl adds calm to both table and shelf.

Tradition Lives Here

Where Craft Is Rooted in Legacy

In the quiet hills of Kusatsu, Ohmi Ceramics continues a tradition that began over a thousand years ago, when unglazed pottery was first shaped from the region’s natural clay. Today, that legacy lives on through the work of licensed ceramic master Yoshinori Yamamoto, founder of the studio and one of the leading figures behind the Kusatsu-yaki style.

Since 1985, Yamamoto has devoted himself to preserving and evolving this ceramic language, one grounded in texture, restraint, and the quiet strength of local materials. Alongside his son Kazuma, he mentors new artisans, supports the local community, and ensures that each piece remains true to its origin.
This is the spirit behind Ohmi Ceramics: not just creating, but continuing.

Cultural Notes

A Modern Take on Tradition: Fubachi Cereal Bowl

In Japanese culture, the word bachi (鉢) refers to a versatile, open-form bowl used for everything from serving side dishes to presenting seasonal ingredients.
Historically made from wood, lacquer, or clay, the bachi reflects a philosophy of simplicity and adaptability, where form follows purpose with quiet elegance.

Fubachi draws from this lineage and reimagines it through a contemporary lens. While it carries the wide, open silhouette of a traditional bachi, its unglazed surface, waved lines, and bold black presence set it apart.

Whether used as part of a curated set of ceramic bowls, as a granola bowl, or as a sculptural piece on its own, Fubachi honors the past without being bound to it. A vessel shaped by heritage, made for the present.

Featured Focus

Fubachi: Wind, Form, and Intention

The name Fubachi (風鉢) combines two kanji: 風 (fu) meaning "wind" or "flow," and 鉢 (bachi) meaning "bowl." Together, they evoke a vessel shaped not just by hand, but by movement, atmosphere, and presence.

This is not a static form, like wind shaping water, the lines of Fubachi are soft, irregular, and alive, expressing the wabi sabi aesthetic of quiet imperfection.

Used as a cereal bowl or simply as a decorative bowl, it carries more than function. It holds feeling. Its name reflects what it offers: form guided by flow, and beauty that lives in subtle movement.
