For the Moments You Value

You Deserve More Than Ordinary

Ultimately it’s your choice.
You can fill your home with objects that mean nothing, flawless, identical, and forgettable. Or you can choose something that reflects who you are.

The Suirei Japanese bowl set isn’t perfect. That’s the point.
Each bowl is shaped by hand, one at a time, with soft asymmetries and delicate ceramic crazing that form as the glaze cools after firing. These pottery bowls carry small irregularities, just like us. That’s what gives them soul. That’s what makes them real.
In the spirit of wabi sabi aesthetic, no two are ever the same. They are truly unique, just like you are.
This isn’t just something you use. It’s something you feel.
And you deserve that.

Stillness, in Your Hands

When a Japanese Bowl Can Slow Time

You don’t need more noise. What you need is space to breathe.
The Suirei ceramic bowl set offers more than utility, it creates a quiet pause in the middle of the everyday.
Each bowl is shaped by hand, slowly, with intention. These are not mass-produced Japanese bowls, but thoughtful vessels that bring rhythm and calm to your table.
Marked by delicate ceramic crazing, a fine network of lines formed as the glaze cools after firing, the surface evolves over time. With use, each bowl deepens in character, just like the moments it holds.
Taichi Kawai, the master potter behind Suirei, hopes these bowls will be used daily.
But more than that, he hopes they’ll make you stop, even for a second, to notice their beauty as the light shifts across the glaze.
Because in a world that rushes, this is your moment to slow down. And feel.

A Touch of Kyoto

Where Japanese Tableware Finds Its Soul

In the hills of Kyoto, at Usurai Pottery, the Suirei ceramic bowl set begins its quiet journey. Here, Taichi Kawai shapes each bowl by hand, one at a time, letting the clay speak, not forcing it into form.
A graduate of the Kyoto Institute of Traditional Crafts, Kawai refined his skills in Shigaraki before founding his own studio.
Kawai’s work is defined by quiet balance, soft curves, layered jade green hues, and the delicate presence of ceramic crazing (kannyū 貫入). Each bowl carries a sense of movement and stillness, shaped by hand and refined through fire.

Rooted in the quiet sensitivity of Kyoto, these Japanese bowls embody restraint and intention. A modern chawan bowl, crafted to accompany daily life with quiet and grace.

Cultural Notes

Japanese Bowl, Refined for Modern Life

In Japanese culture, the word chawan (茶碗) refers broadly to a bowl, used for tea, rice, or daily meals.
A chawan matcha bowl is wide and grounded, ideal for whisking tea during the ritual of chanoyu (茶の湯). A ceramic rice bowl, or gohan chawan (ご飯茶碗), is typically smaller and more upright, designed for holding warm rice in the palm.
On the larger end of the spectrum, the donburi bowl (丼ぶり) is used for hearty meals like rice with toppings or soup dishes.
The Suirei set bowls sit in between, refined in form, versatile in function.
Not as deep as a donburi bowl, and broader than a typical chawan, they offer balance. Their size and shape make them suitable for rice, tea, soup, or small shared dishes.
The Suirei Japanese Bowl set bridges tradition and flexibility, rooted in the legacy of Japanese dinnerware yet designed for a modern rhythm of life.

Featured Focus

The Spirit of Suirei: Jade, Water, Light

The name Suirei (翠澪) combines two kanji: 翠, meaning “jade green,” and 澪, a poetic word for a narrow stream or water flowing gently through rocks. Together, they evoke the image of color in motion, light passing through green water, quiet and alive. This feeling lives in each bowl.

The crackled glaze reveals shifting tones of jade, changing with light and use. Like a current, no two are ever the same.
What you hold is not just a simple green ceramic bowl, but a vessel shaped by the same forces that inspired its name: flow, depth, and stillness.
Suirei is not a name chosen at random, but a reflection of the piece itself, fluid, layered, and quietly radiant.
