Born in 1972, Kazuhiro Kojima is a Japanese ceramic artist and son of Taro Kojima, founder of Nunobiki Kiln. Growing up surrounded by clay, fire, and his father's restless experimentation, the kiln was never a distant place. It was home.

After completing his studies at art college, he returned to Nunobiki and trained alongside his father, gradually developing a visual language distinctly his own. His signature subject is the owl, rendered using the Nanasai Tenmoku technique across a range of scales, from monumental ceramic statues to small, intimate accessories.

His pieces have been placed in hospitals, public institutions, and streetscapes, chosen for the sense of calm and quiet warmth they carry.

The Komorebi cups are yunomi (湯呑), traditional Japanese teacups created for everyday brewed tea.

The name explains their purpose clearly. It combines 湯 (yu), meaning “hot water,” with 呑 (nomi), meaning “to drink,” a straightforward description that reflects how naturally yunomi fit into daily meals.

Without a handle, yunomi are meant to be held directly in the hand, so the warmth of the drink gently carries through the ceramic.

I bought this teacup for my daughter-in-law. My husband and I had spent a month travelling round Japan and I had initially bought her a beautiful teacup (no handle like this) from a very old looking shop in Koyoto. I never asked the shopkeeper if it was suitable for drinking from because I just expected it was. However, when my daughter-in-law washed it before making her first drink the teacup went all discoloured and is ruined. I felt so disappointed and upset so I went online to find a teacup just as beautiful and suitable for drinking from!
