Shaped from a single slab of Japanese juniper (伊吹, Ibuki) and left in its raw, organic form, this wooden tray doesn’t follow a mold, it honors the natural contours gifted by the tree itself.
The surface is gently hand-finished and sealed with a food-safe polyurethane coating, making it easy to clean while preserving its warm, tactile feel.
Originally crafted as a sushi tray, Ibuki also serves beautifully as a refined way to present cheese, small bites, or seasonal appetizers.

Cultural Notes

The Unexpected Elegance of Wood in Japanese Dining

In Japanese Tableware, the tray is more than just a base, it frames the meal, sets the mood, and connects the food to the season. While most are made of lacquer or ceramic, Ibuki reimagines this tradition in solid wood, offering a fresh yet timeless experience.

As a sushi tray, it softens the presentation, bringing warmth and a natural rhythm to the table. Its organic shape, untouched by molds, contrasts beautifully with clean-lined plates or glassware. Beyond dining, it also shines as a wooden serving tray for gatherings or a wooden tray for coffee table styling, blending utility with quiet elegance.
Rooted in tradition, yet refreshingly original, Ibuki invites you to rediscover the role of the tray, not just as a surface, but as a thoughtful part of how we serve, live, and connect.

Featured Focus

A Name That Holds Breath and Form

The name Ibuki (伊吹) refers to the Japanese juniper (Juniperus chinensis var. chinensis) a tree known for its resilience, subtle scent, and beautifully fine grain. This is the wood used to create the tray, but the name carries more than just botanical meaning.

Though written differently, Ibuki also echoes the word 息吹, meaning “breath” or “vital energy.” That layered resonance is intentional. Just like a breath, this tray invites a pause: a quiet moment of presence at the table.
Shaped without molds, each sushi tray follows the natural lines of the wood, offering not uniformity, but individuality.
More than an object, Ibuki is a gesture. Of stillness, of nature, of care, made to hold not only food, but feeling.
