Aonami Waved Serving Bowl
100% made in Japan, crafted with integrity and ethical labor practices.
Exclusivity Note: Every Aonami bowl emerges unique from the kiln. Crazing pattern, glaze drips, and jade tones shift with each firing, never repeating exactly.
The Aonami is a waved serving bowl handcrafted by Taichi Kawai at Usurai Pottery, Kyoto, Japan. It measures 9.3" × 8.3" in width and length, with a depth of 3.1".
The form is asymmetric, with one side rising into a tapered point and the other sweeping low, shaped to suggest a wave in motion.
The glaze technique used is kannyu, a Japanese method that produces a fine network of natural cracks across the ceramic surface during cooling. The same effect is known in Western ceramics as craquelé, or ceramic crazing. On this bowl, the crazing spreads across a deep teal and jade green ground, covering the entire surface.
Each firing produces a different fracture pattern. No two Aonami bowls carry the same surface. Suited for salads, pasta, and shared dishes. Dishwasher safe.
